The IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will have some SJHL flavor.
Nipawin Hawks forward Artsiom Kalashnikov has been named to Team Belarus, who will compete in Division 1 of the annual tournament.
Each year the top junior players from around the world compete in the Elite Division of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships that begins on Boxing Day on TSN.
The bottom two teams at the end of each year get relegated to Division 1… subsequently the top two teams from that division get promoted to the Elite Division.
Kalashnikov and Team Belarus will compete in a pool with Denmark, Austria, Norway, Slovenia and France to try and earn the right to play in the Elite Division in 2014 in Malmo, Sweden.
The tournament begins December 9th in Amiens, France.
The SJHL would like to congratulate Arty and wish him the best of luck in France!
