MUSTANGS LOSING GRIP ON PLAYOFF SPOT

Weyburn lives another day

The Melfort Mustangs have now lost two of their three games in hand on the La Ronge Ice Wolves after they got trounced 6-1 by the Flin Flon Bombers on Saturday night.  

Riley Storzuk had a goal and three assists for the Bombers, who remain four points behind second place Nipawin in the North.  Brett Penner added a pair of goals, while other singles came from the sticks of Brett Boehm, Jason Wark, and Spencer Mault.  Devin Buffalo kicked out 34-shots.  

Godric Tham scored for Melfort and Patrick Johnson made 43-saves in the loss.  Both Melfort and La Ronge have 41-points in the standings.  The Mustangs still have one game in hand.

Jean-Philippe Boucher made 24-saves as Weyburn edged Kindersley 3-1 to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.  They are now within seven points of Estevan with four games to play.  Sam Williams and Brian Farkas (first SJHL goal) scored for the Wings before Thomas Carleton potted an empty netter.  Colton Schick scored for Kindersley and netminder Tyrell King was strong again despite the loss, making 30-saves.

Yorkton failed in their bid to clinch first in the Sherwood by going down to Nipawin 3-1.   Ben Johnstone had a pair for the Hawks, who won their sixth game in a row.  Tad Kozun picked up a single and Jordan Liem stopped 25-shots for the win.  Tyler Giebel scored for Yorkton and Kale Thomsom made 28-saves in the loss.
