Hutchinson’s OT winner caps off Game 3 thriller

MELFORT, SK – Aidyn Hutchinson banged home the winner at the 4:48 mark of the second overtime, and the Melfort Mustangs moved to within one victory of the Canterra Seeds Cup with a 4-3 triumph in Game 3 Wednesday.

Logan Belton opened the scoring 1:38 into the first period for the host Mustangs with a wicked backhand over Harmon Laser-Hume’s shoulder.

The remainder of the opening frame and the entirety of the second was cagey, but the third period was unhinged.

Carter Anderson tied it with a one-timer on the power play 4:59 into the third stanza. Then the teams traded goals until Flin Flon defenceman Adam McNutt’s screened wrister sent the game into OT with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.

Hutchinson banged home his 11th over the post-season amid a goal-mouth battle with Laser-Hume and rookie Bomber defender Luke Lepper.
