BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS

KEY RETURNEES:

1998 D Cody Spagrud (Gull Lake SK)

1998 F MacGregor Sinclair (Irma AB)

1999 G Joel Grzybowski (Hafford SK)

1999 F Matthias Urbanski (Oliver BC)

1999 F Elijah Loon-Stewardson (Sioux Lookout ON)

1999 D Matthew Fletcher (Saskatoon SK)

Replacing Layne Young is impossible and defenseman Levi Kleiboer is headed to the USHL and Sioux City for his final junior season before embarking on his NCAA career at the University of Maine.  Rookie head coach Brayden Klimosko still thinks he has plenty to work with as far as returning veterans are concerned. It should be noted that Grzybowski is exhausting his WHL options first. Cole Johnson is also not back, although local product Braydon Buziak may filter back from the Victoria Royals as a 20-year-old.

OTHER PLAYERS TO WATCH:

2000 D Noah Form (Saskatoon SK) Got into five games with the Stars last year and will be asked to log heavy minutes as a rookie.  He was 39-1-3-4 with Saskatoon Blazers Midget AAA.

2000 D Jacob Bayne (Calgary AB) Saw action in four games with Drumheller AJHL last year, where Klimosko worked as an assistant under former Stars head coach Kevin Hasselberg.  Bayne went 29-2-16-18 with Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA.

2000 F Quintin Loon-Stewardson (Sioux Lookout ON) Will be a treat for fans to watch after adjusting to the Junior ‘A’ game seamlessly as a 17-year-old with Powassan NOJHL, where he scored 19-goals and 25-assists in 53-games played.  Younger brother of Elijah.

2000 F Ty Muench (Saskatoon SK) has a good skill set and vision.  He scored 12-goals and 30-assists in 44-games with Swift Current Midget AAA.

2000 F Brett Gammer (Edmonton AB) Hard nosed player and captain of his Midget AAA team, where he had 12-goals and 13-assists in 33-games.

1998 F Ryan Gil (Torrance CA USA) Bounced around three American clubs last year, but also played four games and had four points with the Stars during a brief stint.

1999 F Shaye Sommerfeld (Drayton Valley AB) A project from Junior ‘B’, he’s got great size and scoring wasn’t a problem either (37-24-24-48) with Wetaskiwin.

2000 F Kaden Boser (Saskatoon SK) Agitating forward had 5-goals and 8-assists in 43-games with the Blazers Midget AAA and also played three games with the North Stars last year.
