REGINA, SK – The Flin Flon Bombers’ quest to bring the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League its first national Junior A title since 2014 will begin May 8, and they officially learned their four-game preliminary-round schedule Wednesday.
Mike Reagan’s men will open their schedule May 8 at 12:00 P.M. local, 9:00 A.M. Saskatchewan Time against the LHJAAAQ champion College Francais De Longueuil. College Francais swept Beauce in their league final on Apr. 25, so there will be no advantage either way as far as rest is concerned.
The Bombers will then take on the Ontario Junior Hockey League champion Toronto Patriots on May 9 at 4:00 P.M. local, 1:00 P.M. in Saskatchewan. Toronto downed the Newmarket Hurricanes in five games in the Buckland Cup final, which also ended on Apr. 25.
Two days later, Flin Flon will face the Greater Sudbury Cubs from the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the same club the Melfort Mustangs handled in the round robin a year ago.
Sudbury went 12-0 in the NOJHL playoffs, including a final sweep of the Timmins Rock.
That game will be on May 11 at noon local, 9:00 A.M. Saskatchewan Time.
They will then close out the round robin on May 13 at 7:30 P.M. Atlantic Time, 4:30 P.M. in Saskatchewan against the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Hockey League. Truro cruised by the Edmundston Blizzard in the MHL final.
