YORKTON, SK – Landon Alexander chipped home his second goal of the post-season at the 17:24 mark of the second period from millimetres out of the goal line, and it held up as the winner as the Flin Flon Bombers pushed the Yorkton Terriers to the brink of elimination with a 6-3 win Wednesday at Westland Arena.
Flin Flon goaltender Charlie Tritt was stellar in making 25 stops in the victory, while Callum Creig and Alexandro Montoya split 32 shots in the Yorkton crease.
Reid Arberry ripped the game’s opener 1:01 into the contest, and then Joey Lies, making his first appearance of the post-season, found space far side on a screened Callum Creig at 2:48 of the second period on a Bomber power play.
Tyler Palin’s rocket off a neat Jake Briltz feed 9:13 into the middle frame, cutting the Flin Flon lead in half, but Wyatt Stinton poked home a Rhett Ewen feed 48 seconds later to regain the Bombers’ two-goal advantage.
Yorkton’s William Leonard and Gabriel Courchesne both scored in the third period, sandwiching Jack Martin and Connor Miller goals, in an attempt to rally the Terriers on two other occasions. Still, the Bombers had an answer every time.
The win gave Flin Flon a 3-0 lead in the Canterra Seeds Cup Final, and it is now one win away from its first SJHL championship since 1993.
