ANOTHER HOME AND HOME SWEEP ON OPENING WEEKEND

There were the six traditional home and home series’ to open up the SJHL regular season, and there wasn’t one single split.

After five different clubs (Battlefords, Estevan, Flin Flon, Melfort & Weyburn) all won back to back games Friday/Saturday, the Humboldt Broncos made it six, capping their opening weekend Sunday night in Wilcox, beating the Notre Dame Hounds 5-2.

On Saturday, Logan Schatz scored twice and Trevor Posch added two assists, and on Sunday the two linemates flipped the script, with Posch notching his first two goals of the season and Schatz picking up a pair of assists.  Michael Korol (1g-1a), Nick Malenica and Daniel McKitrick rounded out the scoring.  Garrett Mason made 18/20 saves for his second win in as many nights.

The Broncos and Battlefords North Stars sit tied for the Finning Division lead with 2-0-0-0 records after opening weekend.

Ben Duperreault and Conor MacLean did the scoring for the Hounds.

The league takes Monday off, and there’s just one game Tuesday with the Battlefords North Stars starting a mid-week road trip in Yorkton at 7:30.
