Bruins Claw Back to Earn 2 Points

While it may have not been a good start to the game for the Estevan Bruins Sunday against the Melville Millionaires, it was a good finish as the club came back to earn a 5-4 win in overtime.

Melville would come out flying in the opening stanza, finding the back of the net 3 times with goals from Cooper Chisholm, Carter McKay, and Isaac Suppin.

However, in the middle frame the Bruins would chip away at the Millionaires lead. Owen Barrow would get the Bruins on the board with a shorthanded marker and Captain Kade Runke would follow it up with a goal on the power-play to get the black and gold to within one going into the third period.

Estevan would continue their momentum in the third as Evan Forrest quickly tied the game just 26 seconds into the period. The Bruins would then take their first lead of the contest thanks to a power-play marker just 1:24 later off the stick of Ilia Chmelevski.

Despite giving up their 3-0 lead, Melville would come back with a goal of their own on the power-play as Louis-Fredric Theberge beat Jackson Miller with his 5th of the season to tie the game at 4. Both teams would have chances to break the tie in the 3rd, but both were unable to find the back of the net one more time in regulation and overtime would be needed.

In the extra frame, the two teams would trade possessions and it appeared the game was destined for a shootout, but with 18 seconds left Mitch Kohner would steal the puck from a Melville defender and slide it five hole to give the Bruins a 5-4 overtime win.

With the win, the Bruins are 19-14-0-1 on the season and are now tied for 3rd in the SJHL standings with the Flin Flon Bombers. It also capped off a busy week for the Bruins which saw them collect 7 out of a possible 8 points.
