Bruins Take 3-1 Lead

For the fifth time in as many nights during these playoffs, we had overtime.  In the lone game on Thursday’s schedule, the Estevan Bruins won their third straight game after dropping the series opener, this time 3-2 in overtime in Notre Dame to grab a 3-1 strangehold in their Best-of-Seven SJHL Quarter-Final series.

Caelan Fitzpatrick scored the winner 5:01 into overtime, sending the Bruins home with a chance to move on to the league semis when they host Game 5 on Saturday.

Nolan Jones and Kian Calder scored for the Bruins in regulation and Boston Bilous made 27/29 saves to pick up the win.

Austin Elliott was brilliant for the Hounds in the loss, stopping 40 of the 43 shots he faced.  Nolen Coventry gave Notre Dame a 1-0 lead in the first period, and Kevin Anderson scored in the third period, forcing overtime.

All three other series’ resume on Friday night, with Yorkton up 3-1 looking to end it in Game 5 in Melfort, while Flin Flon returns to Battleford having evened the series with two home wins, and Humboldt and La Ronge will also break a 2-2 series tie in Humboldt.
