CASSAN ACCEPTS POST WITH CALGARY HITMEN

By Mike Stackhouse

Cassan resigns

It is with mixed emotions the Yorkton Terrier Board of Directors announces the resignation of Head Coach and General Manager Trent Cassan.  Fortunate for Trent but unfortunate for the Terriers is the fact that he has accepted an Assistant Coach position with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

Trent has spent the past 8 seasons with the Terriers as an assistant coach, head coach and General Manager.  During those 8 seasons Trent was able to secure several league titles with the highlight being winning the 2014 Royal Bank Championship.

Trent’s hockey knowledge, calm demeanor and commitment to growing and supporting the game has served the Terriers well.  He will be missed both on and off the ice.  The entire Terrier organization wishes to thank Trent and good luck as he moves forward in his career.

O’Brien appointed

The Yorkton Terrier Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Casey O’Brien current Assistant Coach to the position of Head Coach and General Manager.  Casey has worked very closely with Trent Cassan and the Terrier organization for the past 5 seasons including the 2014 Royal Bank Championship.  Casey was also the recipient of the first ever SJHL Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2015-2016 season.

Casey has several years’ experience in the hockey world including scout for Carleton Raven’s Men’s University Hockey Team, Player Development Coach with the Banff Hockey Academy as well as playing professional hockey in Norway.

The Board of Directors are confident in Casey’s ability to move the Terriers along the path to success they have so often enjoyed.  The past 4 seasons with the team have allowed Casey to play a significant role in building and developing the players and the team as a whole.

Please join the Terrier organization in wishing Trent and his family the best as he moves forward and welcoming Casey, his wife Laura and his son Caleb to his new role.
