CALGARY, AB – The Melfort Mustangs 2025 Centennial Cup run continues tomorrow at noon vs the CCHL champion Rockland Nationals.

Melfort has been off since Saturday’s much-needed victory over the Edmunston Blizzard of the Maritime Hockey League, but will have to be ready for a red-hot Rockland club that is the only team in the group to have not lost in regulation thus far.

Although it bears weight on the scoreboard, the Mustangs’ playoff destiny is in their hands.

With games against Rockland, and a Valleyfield Braves (Quebec) team, that could be eliminated by the time they face off against the Mustangs Wednesday afternoon, Trevor Blevins’ men could end up with as many as nine points, which would guarentee them at least third place and a spot in Friday’s quarter final.

Here is a look at the standings before game play on Monday:

NOTE: A win in regulation is worth three points, a win in overtime or shootout is worth two, and an OT or SO loss is worth one.

As such, the permutations, depending on what happens elsewhere and whether Melfort can win their games, are numerous.

The top three teams in each group move on to the playoffs, with the top seeds in each group earning a bye into Saturday’s semifinals.

The quarterfinals on Saturday will feature the 2nd-place team in Group A vs. the 3rd-place team in Group B, and the 2nd-place team in Group B vs. the 3rd-place team in Group A.

It is therefore of great benefit for the Mustangs to attempt to secure first place, as it would earn them an extra day of rest and avoid a three-game-in-three-days scenario should they make it to Sunday’s gold medal game.
