Cory Schillo

In the last five years of hockey, Cory Schillo has never scored more than 11 goals in a season.

At the half-way point of his second season with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Melville Millionaires it is clear he will surpass that number with ease.

The 19-year-old winger from Kasson, Mn., has six goals and six assists so far this year which is one point less than he tallied all of last and twice as many goals.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Schillo arrived in Melville just over a year ago after spending the 2015-16 season with the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. In 30 games with the Admirals, Schillo registered eight goals and 14 assists and that followed his most productive season ever when he had 11-13-24 totals in 45 games with the Steele County Blades.

Prior to playing with the Blades, Schillo spent two seasons with the Dodge City High School team and in 46 games over that span he posted 10 goals and 16 assists.

While Schillo’s offensive output isn’t staggering, although it does have an upward trend as he gains experience, he brings other qualities to the team. Schillo has definite leadership qualities as being named an alternate captain this year attests to, and he also has a bit of grit in his game as last season he amassed 82 minutes in penalty despite being a rookie in the league.

The Millionaires have the potential to be a surprise in the second half of the season and Schillo’s improved play is certain to be a big part of that.
