REGINA, SK – Kaleb Binner jammed home the winner on a broken play with 4:26 remaining in regulation as the Melfort Mustangs edged the Estevan Bruins 3-2 on a busy Friday around the league.

Every member of Binner’s line, which also includes Austin Shepherd and Nolan Patterson, found the back of the net for the Mustangs, who are looking to close the gap on the eighth and final playoff spot.

They were unable to gain any ground, however, as the Melville Millionaires, who hold that last postseason spot, took down the Weyburn Red Wings 6-2.

Ex-Red Wings’ forward Hudson Binder led the way with a pair for the Mils, while former Weyburn goaltender Preston Patenaude made 22 stops in the win in his first appearance since joining Melville from the Wings at the trade deadline.

In Warman, Josh Knittig’s shorthanded goal 6:50 into the final period proved the winner for the Battlefords North Stars to down the Wolverines 4-3.

The North Stars won their seventh game in a row and slipped into second place in the league with the victory.

Stars’ captain Anthony Campbell was the game’s high scorer with a goal and an assist, and has 11 points in the five games since he returned from the Viking Cup. He has goals in four of those five contests and points in all of them.

The Yorkton Terriers were the biggest beneficiary of Estevan’s defeat, as their 7-5 wild triumph in Nipawin over the Hawks moved them to within one point of the Bruins for fifth, with three games in hand.

William Leonard continued his white-hot form for the Terriers, posting four goals and an assist in a career-high night.

He has 12 points in his current four-game point streak.

Finally, in La Ronge, Cobe Perlinger notched his first career SJHL hat trick to help the Kindersley Klippers cruise by the Ice Wolves 7-3.

His twin brother Cam added two helpers on the night, both coming on Cobe’s goals.
