REGINA, SK – The Estevan Bruins and Weyburn Red Wings comprise the hotly contested Highway 39 rivalry, and they both put up big-time statement wins Friday night.

In Estevan, Ewan Rennie led the way with a pair of goals, his fourth multi-point game in five, and Chase Holt notched his first career two-goal contest as the Bruins ended the Nipawin Hawks’ six-game win streak with a 7-1 victory. Rennie leads the league in points at the time of writing with 18 through 11 contests.

Estevan has now won four games in a row.

Meanwhile, in Weyburn, it was the Red Wings who won their fifth consecutive contest. Veteran defenceman Josh Karman scored his first two goals of the year and the Wings downed the Flin Flon Bombers 5-1.

Bryson Aikens scored his first career SJHL hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night as the Melfort Mustangs edged the Yorkton Terriers 5-4.

The Terriers had rallied with four goals in the second period, but Aikens’ winner at the 9:11 mark of the third period held up.

In Melville, Braydon Vandenbilche scored the only goal of the shootout to help the Kindersley Klippers edge the Melville Millionaires 3-2. It was Kindersley’s league-leading fifth overtime game out of 10 total contests in their campaign.

Mils’ forward Alex Morrison scored the game-tying goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation to send it to the extra frame.

Elsewhere in Humboldt, Jacob Strizzi scored his league-leading 14th goal of the year and Connor Miller added a pair as the Broncos cruised past the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-1.

Finally, in Warman, Battlefords scored three goals shorthanded on the same Wolverines power play late in the second. Kaleb Dewar and Drew Williamson both had two-goal nights, and the North Stars came away with an 8-2 win.
