REGINA, SK – It was a night chock-full of drama in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Kristian Coombs made 28 stops for his fourth shutout of the campaign as the Melfort Mustangs cruised past the Flin Flon Bombers 5-0 to move within one point of clinching first overall in the league standings.

Zayden Sadlemyer led the way for Melfort with two goals, including the game-winner. At the same time, Flin Flon goaltender Matthew Kieper lost his first game in regulation since joining the Bombers in early November.

In Weyburn, the Melville Millionaires jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two periods of play and held on to win 5-2 over the Red Wings.

It was the Mils’ 10th win in a row, and it moved them within four points of Yorkton for the final Round 1 home-ice advantage spot.

Noah Belles-Isles’s second-period power-play marker held up as the winner.

Humboldt did those Millionaires a favour as Dazza Mitchell made 47 stops and newly minted Nipissing University commit Maddox Amaral celebrated the occasion with a pair of goals en route to a 5-3 victory in Yorkton.

Tate Schofer replied with a pair for the Terriers, who failed to make up ground despite Weyburn’s defeat.

The distance between the seventh and eighth periods grew to eight points, the largest it has been all year. In the third period, a Finley Radloff pair led the young Nipawin Hawks to a 5-2 victory over the No. 8 seed Kindersley Klippers.

That gap was widened by Humboldt’s win and Anthony Campbell’s four-point night, which was enough for the No. 6 Battlefords North Stars to hold on and defeat the Estevan Bruins 7-5.
