REGINA, SK – Kindersley Klippers’ captain Wil Christian scored twice in his season debut, but it was La Ronge Ice Wolves’ captain Zane Normand, himself playing only his second game of the year, who scored the winner, to grab a 4-3 overtime victory for the Wolves.
Christian tied the game at three with 5:13 remaining in regulation after La Ronge had taken two separate leads throughout the contest.
Both captains returned recently from injuries.
Ice Wolves’ goaltender Graham Brown led the way with 45 stops on the night.
In a wild one in Battlefords, the hosts overcame a Jacob Strizzi hat trick and two Humboldt leads to edge the Broncos 5-4.
Rookie Kaleb Dewar notched the winner for the North Stars with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.
In the first rematch of the Canterra Seeds Cup from a year ago, it was the Weyburn Red Wings who held off a furious third-period Melfort Mustangs rally to hang on 5-4.
Drew Molde scored twice and added an assist in the victory, and notched the first of three Weyburn goals in under three minutes early in the final frame.
The Mustangs never quit, though, and brought the game within one at the 18:12 mark of the third period on a tally from captain Zayden Sadlemyer.
Elsewhere, the Melville Millionaires and Nipawin Hawks scored big road wins, downing the Yorkton Terriers and Warman Wolverines 7-2 and 6-1, respectively.
The Mils had seven different goal scorers on the night, while Konnor Watson notched his first career SJHL hat trick for the Hawks.
