FRIDAY RECAP: Roberts, Hawks ground Bombers at the Cage

REGINA, SK – Gage Roberts made 45 stops, and Eric Hoiness led the way offensively with a goal and an assist en route to a 5-2 Nipawin Hawks victory over the Flin Flon Bombers Friday.

Nipawin’s Jack Janzen also added three helpers as the Hawks snapped the Bombers’ five-game win streak.

The win also lifted Nipawin above Flin Flon into first place on win percentage.

Elsewhere in North Battleford, it was the host North Stars who went ahead by four goals before holding on for a 5-3 win over the Estevan Bruins.

Long-time Stars-turned-Bruins Rylan Williams and Colton Getzlaff were both held pointless in their returns to the Access Communications Centre.

Finlay Klippenstein’s second-period marker held up as the winner, and the Battlefords’ forward now has goals in nine of his last 11 games, with 10 tallies over that span.

He started the season with one goal in 10 games.

Matt Spencer-Dahl made 29 saves to win his third start in as many games as a Millionaire as Melville outlasted the Melfort Mustangs 5-2.

Nathan Taylor scored twice for Melville, who are unbeaten in four (3 wins plus one overtime loss) since Dahl arrived.

Pherson Loehndorf’s goal 7:14 into the third period held up as the winner to help the Warman Wolverines snap their five-game skid with a 2-1 win vs. the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Griffin Wright made 28 saves in the triumph.

Finally, in Kindersley, the Klippers scored four straight to beat the Yorkton Terriers 4-2.

Brett O’Halloran stopped 31 shots, while Ethan Sautner bagged the winner 1:08 into the third period.
