REGINA, SK – Angelo Zol made 39 stops, and Blake Betson’s first-period marker held up as the winner as the Weyburn Red Wings grabbed Game 1 of their Round 2 series vs. the Flin Flon Bombers with a 3-1 victory Friday.
Weyburn has not lost in three Flin Flon’s Whitney Forum contests this year, ranging back to the regular season.
Cyprus Smith-Davis and Jerome Maharaj had the Wings’ other goal as Weyburn won its first Round 2 post-season contest since March 18, 2015.
In the other Game 1, it was all Melfort.
Will Munroe was the high-scorer with two goals and an assist on the night, and Kristian Coombs made 28 stops in the 6-1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers as the defending champions continued from where they left off in Round 1.
