FRIDAY RECAPS

By Craig Stein

It’s now nine straight wins in the month of October for the Weyburn Red Wings, who resumed their four game road trip Friday with a 4-2 win in Flin Flon.

The teams traded goals twice in the first forty minutes and the Red Wings (11-2-1-0) went up for good in the third when Carson Scheschuk and Cole Woodliffe (1g-2a) scored.  Erik Olson scored the first two for the Wings and Carter Phair made 34/36 saves.

Calvon Boots (1g-1a) and Ethan Daniels replied for the home side.

The Wings will try to cap a perfect month when they wrap up their four game swing in Nipawin on Saturday night.

16-year-old Yorkton Terrier goalie Nolan Maier surrendered five goals Friday, but it was a star-worthy performance as the 2001-born tender faced 72 shots from the Battlefords North Stars, as the Stars kept their unbeaten in regulation streak going with a 5-2 decision.

The Stars (9-0-1-0) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, out-shooting the Terriers 28-3 in the first period.

Layne Young and Dakota Huebner each had a goal and two assists.  Keith Anderson (1g-1a), Chaseton Braid (1g-1a) and Levi Kleiboer did the rest of the scoring and Kolby Matthews stopped 17/19 shots.

Replying for the Terriers (3-11-2-0) late in the second period were Cole Keenleyside and William Brochu.  The two teams battle again on Saturday.
