The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) would like to officially welcome the community of Gull Lake as the host location for Hockey Day in Saskatchewan, 2019. Gull Lake Skating Rink, home to the Gull Lake Greyhounds and South West Cyclones, will be the hub for hockey and other events and activities, before and during the weekend of January 18-20, 2019.

The schedule has yet to be finalized, yet many of the traditional Hockey Day in Saskatchewan events are set to take place. On the Friday, January 18, the Hockey Day in Saskatchewan banquet will take place featuring special guest speaker and former NHL player, Dennis Hull.

The Saturday, January 20, Hockey Day in Saskatchewan will feature a triple header at the Gull Lake Skating Rink. The three (3) matchups will include the Saskatchewan Female Midget “AAA” Hockey League’s (SFMAAAHL) Swift Current Wildcats taking on the Battlefords Sharks. Followed by the boy’s side, as the Saskatchewan Midget “AAA” Hockey League’s (SMAAAHL) Swift Current Legionnaires are up against the Tisdale Trojans. The final game that evening will feature the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) Notre Dame Hounds battle it out against the Battlefords North Stars, in a rematch of the 2016 Hockey Day in Saskatchewan, hosted in Wadena.

The host committee for Gull Lake is still looking for both sponsors and volunteers for the event. If you are interested, please contact Sara Kuntz at 306-671-7725 or (gull.lake.rec.sk@gmail.com).

This year’s event will mark the 11th host community for Hockey Day in Saskatchewan since its inception in 2008. Gull Lake becomes the second host location situated in SHA’s south-west region (zone three).

Hockey Day in Saskatchewan is awarded to a different community each year to help raise funds for the local arena. The event is a partnership between the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and the host community.
