MILLIONAIRES WITHIN FOUR POINTS OF A PLAYOFF SPOT

With six games remaining on their schedule, the Melville Millionaires are now just four points back of the Melfort Mustangs for the final playoff spot, after winning their second straight game, and third in their last four, 3-2 in overtime in Estevan Tuesday night.

Defenseman Eric Soar capped a two point night with his 4th goal of the season, unassisted in overtime to help increase his club’s chances of a post-season berth.

Clayton Eisler and Tucker Scantlebury gave the Millionaires a 2-0 lead in the second period, before Estevan’s Evan Scott and Hayden Guilderson answered back with powerplay goals before the middle frame was done.

The two teams skated to a scoreless third period, before Soar ended things in overtime.

Colby Entz made 35/37 saves in the win for the Millionaires (20-30-2-0).

Melville’s remaining schedule sees them finish with four of their last six on home ice, and mostly against middle-of-the-pack teams.  They have a home and home with Weyburn on the weekend, home to Notre Dame next Tuesday, home and home with Yorkton the following weekend, before finishing at home against Estevan on March 7th.

The Bruins (33-16-2-1) clinched the Viterra Division and will finish no worse than 3rd.  They’re now six points back of Nipawin and Flin Flon, with a game in hand, and six remaining.
