Hawks make a pair of big moves

The Nipawin Hawks have made a pair of roster moves this week.

The Hawks have acquired defenceman Hudson Gainer from the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in exchange for a Player Development Fee (PDF). The 2007-born Medicine Hat product has appeared in nine games this season with Drumheller, collecting three points.

In a separate transaction, Nipawin sent forward Jack Drake and future considerations to the Melville Millionaires in exchange for forward Brendan Olson. Drake, a 2006-born forward from Calgary, registered 9 GP – 2 G – 2 A – 4 PTS – 0 PIM this season with the Hawks.

Olson joins Nipawin following parts of three seasons in Melville, bringing experience, physical play, and offensive touch. The 2005-born winger has been a consistent contributor since debuting in the league, amassing:

  • 2023–24: 23 GP – 5 G – 3 A – 8 PTS – 41 PIM (+ 1 G in 2 playoff GP)

  • 2024–25: 52 GP – 11 G – 29 A – 40 PTS – 68 PIM (+ 2 PTS in 5 playoff GP)

  • 2025–26: 18 GP – 5 G – 2 A – 7 PTS – 38 PIM
