HOUNDS MOVE UP THE STANDINGS

BACK TO THE TOP SIX

Nick Rein scored with 19.4 seconds left in regulation, giving the Notre Dame Hounds a huge 3-2 win over the visiting Weyburn Red Wings in Wednesday’s only SJHL matchup.

The Hounds and Wings went into the evening, tied for 7th place overall, one point back of Yorkton for 6th.  The victory vaults the Hounds (25-23-6-2) past Yorkton and into 6th by a point, while Weyburn sits alone in 8th, still one point back of Yorkton.  Had they hung on for another 20 seconds they would have been at least tied with the Terriers in 7th.

Conor MacLean and Ben Duperreault scored in the second period, with Carson Rose and Dylan McCabe also replying in the middle frame for the Red Wings (25-25-2-4).

Benjamin Patt made 25/27 saves for Notre Dame while Carter Phair turned away 30/33 for Weyburn.

There are five home and homes this coming weekend and the Hounds and Wings are both involved.  Notre Dame finishes up against Humboldt, starting Friday night in Wilcox.  Weyburn gets their rivals from Estevan, with Friday’s game on the road.
