Ice Wolves Close 2018 With Victory

By Craig Stein

A pair of late empty-netters made the spread a little wider than the rest of the game indicated, but the La Ronge Ice Wolves returned from their Christmas break, and said goodbye to 2018 with a 6-3 home ice win over the Flin Flon Bombers on Monday night.

Zach Bannister led the way with three goals and an assist for La Ronge (8-27-1-0).  Bannister is now into the top 10 in SJHL scoring, tied for 8th with 42 points, including 18-goals.  Daunte Fortner added a goal and two assists, while Jake Gudjonson (1g-1a) and Jordan Mish also scored.  Daniel Davidson made 45/48 saves in the win.

Pierce Diamond made 37/41 saves in goal for the Bombers (19-12-0-2), while Ryder Richmond, Dawson McKenzie and Brandson Hein did the scoring.

They’ll play again Tuesday night in Flin Flon, while Yorkton heads to Melville (2:00) and Estevan’s in Weyburn (3:00) for afternoon games on New Year’s Day.
