Ice Wolves Complete Weekend Sweep at Home

Out of any team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, the La Ronge Ice Wolves have played the most games at home so far this season, but they sure have taken advantage of playing at the Mel.

This weekend was no different. After earning back to back wins over the Estevan Bruins Friday and Saturday, the Wolves would host the Notre Dame Hounds Sunday as both clubs played their 3rd game in 3 nights.

Just like the first two contests between the two teams this season, the two teams would go back and forth and extra time would be needed. The Hounds would get goals in regulation from Evan Vanden Heuval and Carson Baylis, while Dylan Handel netted a pair for the Wolves.

In the extra frame, it wouldn’t take long to decide a winner. Just 1:13 into the overtime period Defenceman Connor Abric would score his 6th of the season and vault the Ice Wolves to a 3-2 overtime win.

With the win, the Ice Wolves improve to 25-13-3-1 on the season and have surpassed Humboldt for 2nd in the SJHL standings. However, they have played four more games than the Broncos.

Meanwhile, for the Hounds, they earned 1 out of a possible 6 points this weekend on the road and remain 2 points back of the Weyburn Red Wings for the 8th and final playoff spot.

Monday is an off day in the league, but action resumes on Tuesday with four games on the schedule.
