Outgoing Kindersley Jr. Klippers defenceman Russ Demo is U Sports bound. The team announcing Tuesday that the back-end stalwart has committed to return home and play at the post-secondary level with the University of Calgary Dinos.
A Calgary native, Demo signed with the Klippers ahead of the 2023-24 season following parts of two seasons with the Calgary Flames of the AEHL U18 AAA league.
Including playoffs, Demo played 52 games during his rookie season before increasing his role and playing 58 total games in 2024-25. He was limited to only 44 games in his senior season with the Klippers, making the most of it with his best offensive season to date picking up 28 points (eight goals, twenty assists), including a stretch to start the season that featured a five-assist night to help earn him SJHL Defenseman of the Week.
His final season in Kindersley also included a trip to the revived Viking Cup during the holidays. Demo’s hot start to the season earned him a role within the U20 all-star team’s defensive group, where he along with fellow veteran Van Eger up front helped Team SJHL win the whole thing.
