By Craig Stein

BACK IN ACTION AFTER THE HOLIDAYS

The Battlefords North Stars and Kindersley Klippers reported back right after Christmas, and hooked up for a weekend home and home.

Friday night, the North Stars went on the road and took a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes en route to a 4-2 win over the Klippers.  MacGregor Sinclair scored twice, Brett Gammer and Ryan Gil added the others and Joel Gryzbowski made 31/33 saves.

Will Van der Sloot (1g-1a) and Clay Keeley scored for Kindersley and Justin Close stopped 19/22.

On Saturday the Klippers bounced back and battled from behind twice, never held the lead until Kyle Bosch scored 46 seconds into overtime to seal a 3-2 (OT) win.

Clay Keely and Josh Fletcher each had a goal and an assist for the Klippers and Zach Johnson got the start, making 24/26 saves in the win.  Matthias Urbanski and Regan Doig replied for the Stars while Gryzbowski was back in goal stopping 38/41 shots.

With the North Stars (20-9-3-4) earning three of a possible four points on the weekend, they jumped past Humboldt into second spot in the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division with 47 points, three back of the Klippers (23-9-2-2), who continue to lead the way.  Both teams are now off again until Friday, January 4th when they both have home games, the Stars against Humboldt, the Klippers welcoming La Ronge.

Sunday sees four more teams return from the break as Yorkton welcomes Melville and Weyburn heads to Estevan to open their New Years’ home-and-home’s.  Both Sunday games are 2:00 starts.
