The Humboldt Broncos are proud to announce another commitment for one of our graduating players.

Ben Kotylak has announced his commitment to the University of British Columbia (USPORTS) and will become a member of the Thunderbirds for the 2023/24 season.

Kotylak joined the Broncos in his final season of junior hockey at the start of the 2022-23 season. It didn’t take long to impress, leading the Broncos with 10 points in his first 5 games.

Kotylak only missed two games throughout the whole year, and as the season progressed, he was a crucial component in the Broncos 2nd place finish, from providing offence, to killing penalties.

“Ben was a major contributor on both sides of the puck. His speed, tenacity, and skill are what separates him. You could count on him to fill in on any line and provide offence, and he was a major factor on our PK, where he absolutely relished that role. We are very proud and excited that we get to follow Ben in his next journey at UBC. We know he will be successful with his education, as well as on the ice with the Thunderbirds,” said Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney.

Kotylak finished his Broncos tenure with 40 points (23g-17a) in 54 games. His 23 goals were second on the team.

Over the course of his career, Kotylak played 136 games of Junior-A hockey across the BCHL, AJHL, and SJHL.

UBC finished with a 26-10-0 record last season, finishing 4th in the regular season. They would go on to defeat the University of Regina in the Quarterfinals before losing to the University of Alberta in the Semis.
