The Melfort Mustangs and Flin Flon Bombers, the two league finalists from a year ago, are the two hottest teams in the league again this year and have just made significant acquisitions.

From the Flin Flon Bombers’ website:

Marsden was acquired from the AJHL’s Fort McMurray Oil Barons this past summer in exchange for a Player Development Fee and put up 7 points in 27 games last season. This season Marsden suited up in 7 games with Victoria before being re-assigned to the Bombers.

“Kyle came highly recommended from Keefe Gruener so when we had the opportunity to acquire his CJHL rights from Fort McMurray, it was a no brainer. Kyle will bring size, toughness and experience to our lineup and we’re excited to work with him. We’ve heard nothing but great things about his character and we expect him to be a great addition on the ice and in the community.” – Bombers Head Coach & GM, Mike Reagan

The 6’3, 228lbs product of Fort McMurray, Alberta was drafted in the 6th round of the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft by the Winnipeg Ice.

The defending champion Mustangs made their move Wednesday as they acquired forward Ashton Paul from the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in exchange for forward Rylan Ringor and a player development fee.

Paul, 20, posted 19 points in 28 games for the Flin Flon Bombers last year before being moved to Dauphin. Between the Kings, Bombers, and OCN Blizzard, the The Pas, MB native has 135 points in 193 Junior A games.

He stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 180 pounds.

Ringor, 20, played only nine games for the Mustangs after Melfort acquired him from the Devon Xtreme of the Alberta Junior Hockey League earlier this season.
