LOGJAM IN THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE STANDINGS

By Mike Stackhouse

As we approach the final two weeks of the regular season schedule, the playoff match-ups are starting to take shape.  Barring unforeseen:

1-Nipawin vs. lowest remaining seed from Survivor Series
2-Battlefords vs. highest remaining seed from Survivor Series
3-Estevan vs. 6 seed (Weyburn, Notre Dame, or Kindersley)
4-Melfort vs. 5-Humboldt

The Sixth seed is important because it means you avoid playing that extra Survivor Series round.  At the moment, Weyburn sits in that slot, but they have the fewest games remaining of the three clubs in the mix for it.

The Survivor Series is a best of three with the lower seed hosting game one and then the higher seed hosting games 2 and, if necessary, 3.

7th plays 10th and 8th plays 9th.  As you can see below, 6, 7, and 8 are all very close.

Melville, with a 6-3-and-1 run over their last ten, have played themselves into the mix for the 9th seed and have a ‘must win’ game against Flin Flon this week.
