The Melville Millionaires Jr. A Hockey Club in partnership with Mike Rooney, would like to announce that that Mike will be leaving the Melville Millionaires organization to pursue other opportunities. Mike joined the organization in May of 2020, where he was an integral part of the return to play coordination during the pandemic.

“I would like to thank the Melville Millionaires and the community of Melville for the opportunity. Although I am disappointed, we did not bring playoff hockey to the community, our hockey department worked extremely hard and there were many internal improvements. I know I am leaving the organization better condition than my arrival.

The enthusiastic fans need to know success is extremely near. The new group will have assets to work with. There are ample draft picks for the upcoming draft; there remains trade assets still to return to the Millionaires; there is opportunity to return a core of quality players from major junior. All this should not overshadow a strong core of returning players and a strong group of new recruits already committed to arrive in Melville.

I am proud I was able to play a strong role in developing the Education Foundation for the organization. I am immensely proud we are relevant in moving players to higher levels. We had five players who developed in Melville playing major junior hockey this season. When all said and done, there will be seven players from our 2022-23 roster playing hockey at post-secondary level and receiving scholarship support.

I wish the organization all the best and look forward to seeing the team make that next step.” ~ Mike Rooney

The Melville Millionaires would like to thank Mike for all his work over the past few years and wish him the best of luck in the future.
