MONDAY RECAP – Wings, Terriers punch tickets to Round 2

THORNHILL, ONT – The Yorkton Terriers and Weyburn Red Wings are moving on.

By virtue of their Game 6 wins over Melville and Nipawin, respectively, the Round 2 playoff picture came into focus Monday evening.

In Weyburn, Rylan Pearce and Josh Sale led the way with four points each, and helped the Wings down the Nipawin Hawks 5-2.

Joey Rocha made 34 saves in the win, his third-straight performance with a save percentage north of .927.

Gage Roberts stopped 30 shots in defeat.

Thomas Ries scored a pair, and Callum Creig made 21 saves as the Yorkton Terriers advanced with a 4-1 Game 6 victory over the Melville Millionaires.

Ries’ first-period goal held up as the winner, and it is the second-straight season the Terriers have defeated their Highway 10 rivals in Round 1 of the post-season.
