MORETZ OFF TO SABRES DEVELOPMENT CAMP, BECKMAN DRAFTED BY WILD

By Mike Stackhouse

Graduating Flin Flon Bombers forward Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks AK USA) has received an invitation to next week’s NHL Development Camp of the Buffalo Sabres.

Moretz, who scored 21-goals and 30-assists in 45-games this past season, is slated to play this Fall in the NCAA at RIT.

“This past season we had a four game road trip and there was a Sabres scout (Austin Dunne) at the Notre Dame game and he spent a little bit of time talking to me.  A few days ago I got a phone call from that same scout inviting me to their development camp,” says Moretz.

Moretz is taking the opportunity in stride.  “I just want to go in with an open mindset and learn as much as I can about the NHL lifestyle as well as play to the best of my ability.”

The four day event starts Wednesday at Harborcenter in Buffalo and culminates with a 3-on-3 tournament Saturday morning.  The goal of the camp is to provide an exposure to potential players as far as organizational standards and professional work habits.  Players will become familiar with the team and the resources available to them.

Meanwhile, the 2019 NHL Entry Draft concluded on Saturday in Vancouver and one-time Nipawin Hawks prospect Adam Beckman (Saskatoon SK) was taken in the third round by Minnesota.  Beckman played one game and scored a goal and an assist with the Hawks in 2018.  He also played in three playoff games as part of the Hawks championship run and scored two goals.  This past year, he put up 32-goals and 62-points in 68-games with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs.
