MUSTANGS CLOSE OUT PRE-CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE WITH WIN

Colin Schmidt scored midway through the second period, breaking a 2-2 tie and starting a run of four unanswered goals as the Melfort Mustangs defeated the Humboldt Broncos 6-2 in front of almost 1200 fans at Northern Lights Palace Friday night.

Andrew Thompson scored twice and Loch Morrison collected three assists in the win as the Mustangs led 4-2 after two before tacking on two more in the third.

Carson Albrecht, Reed Gunville, and Tristen Elder rounded out the scoring, with Elder burning his former teammates late in the third.

Logan Schatz scored his 15th and 16th of the year for the Broncos.

Melfort goes into Christmas trailing Nipawin by 7 points, with a game in hand, for first place in the Sherwood Division.

Humboldt is three behind Notre Dame for second in the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division.
