Mustangs fall short in Centennial Final

CALGARY, AB – It was not to be at the Centennial Cup for the Melfort Mustangs.

Ashton Paul and Zayden Sadlemyer both found the back of the net, but it was not enough as Melfort fell 7-2 to the tournament host, the Calgary Canucks, in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday.

The schedule was gruelling for the Mustangs. Five games in six days, all of which were played at a high pace and with high levels of stress, and it finally appeared to catch up with them.

Calgary, on the other hand, had played one game between last Tuesday and Sunday’s championship final.

Nothing that happened on the day can take away what a remarkable campaign it was for the Mustangs. A second consecutive Canterra Seeds Cup championship is something that has not been done since Melfort did it in 2015 and 2016.

The community of Melfort and the league as a whole should be nothing but incredibly proud of this group that answered challenge after challenge with dominance and class all season long.
