The top two teams in the Sherwood Division went head to head in Melfort on Halloween Thursday as the Mustangs picked up a 4-3 overtime victory over the Flin Flon Bombers.
Ryley Lanthier scored the OT winner for Melfort, after they watched a 3-0 lead slip away. Tyson Meyers, Kenzie Arnold (10th of the season) and Colby Brett (first SJHL goal) scored during a 2:59 span in the first period, before Flin Flon’s Ryder Richmond, Chase Haygarth and Cole Rafuse mounted the comeback before the second period was up. After a scoreless third period, Lanthier’s winner came 2:21 into extra time.
The extra point now has the Mustangs (13-4-2-1) two points up on the Bombers (12-4-3-0) for the Sherwood Division lead, and second overall in the SJHL.
Shawn Parkinson made 39/42 saves in the win, while Kyle Jessiman made his first SJHL start for Flin Flon, making 21/25 stops.
