Mustangs Join Stars In Final

COMEBACK WIN ON THE ROAD LEADS MELFORT BACK TO CANALTA FINAL

The Melfort Mustangs bounced back from a 2-0 deficit, and scored the next three on their way to a 3-2 victory in Estevan in Game 6, booking their ticket back to the Canalta Cup Final for the third time in the last five years (won back to back in 2015 and 2016).

It was the first time in the series that the road team came out on top, and they had to work for it.  Defenseman Aigne McGeady-Bruce scored first for Estevan just 1:12 into the game, and the Bruins led 1-0 after twenty minutes.  Kade McMillen made it 2-0 7:20 into the second period, but the Mustangs tied it up before the middle frame was done, thanks to goals from Colin Schmidt and Alex Rondeau.

It remained tied in the last five minutes of play, before regular season goal and point scoring champ Justin Ball took matters into his own hands.  The 54-goal man notched his 6th goal and league-leading 14th point of the post-season with 3:57 to go and that stood as the winner.

Noah Giesbrecht made 41/43 saves, and he’s now 8-1 in the playoffs with a 1.99 GAA and a .941%.

The Battlefords Norths will have home ice advantage in the Canalta Cup Final, and they’ll host Games 1 & 2 this Friday and Saturday.  The series will move to Melfort for Games 3 & 4 next Tuesday and Wednesday.
