The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce that Leith Olafson has committed to Mount Royal University Men’s Hockey Program.  Olafson joined the Mustangs organization as an 18 year-old and quickly showed his impressive leadership skills and great kindness. Olafson wore an “A” in his 19 year old season with the Mustangs and was named Captain for the 2023-2024 season.

Olafson, a Wasa, BC Native, played most of his junior career in the SJHL and has played 184 games, has 21 goals and 78 assists for a total of 99 points.

When asked about his junior career, this is what Olafson had to say: ” For three years I’ve called Melfort my second home, and I truly can’t thank everyone in the organization and the community enough for the support they have shown for the team and to me as an individual.  From the coaches to the fans and most importantly my amazing billets, You’ve made my time here truly unforgettable. Thank you!

Head Coach Trevor Blevins had this to say about his captain: “We are very proud of Leith’s commitment to Mount Royal University.  He has been a privilege to coach for the past 3 seasons.  A true leader who exemplifies all the positive characteristics of who a Melfort Mustang should be, he was our captain for these reasons.  Leith’s contributions to Melfort and to the Melfort Mustangs Organization will never be forgotten and will help shape many players for years to come.  Thank you for all your effort Leith, on and off the ice.”

Olafson is planning on enrolling in Kinesiology and plans on keeping an open mind about his future. He would like to play professional hockey but is taking things one step at a time.

We want to thank Leith for all the amazing seasons and the entire Olafson family for the support over the years. We can not wait to see what your future holds for you Leith! You will always have a special place within the Melfort Mustangs organization.
