WEYBURN, SK – The 2024-25 Melfort Mustangs are one of the best defensive teams the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has ever seen, and they proved it again Wednesday.
Logan Belton notched the winner for the second game in a row when he jumped off a Zac Somers face-off win and slipped the puck past Angelo Zol in the Weyburn net at the 16:07 mark of the second period.
It was the winner, and all Melfort would need as they took Game 3 1-0, and a 2-1 lead in the 2025 Canterra Seeds Cup Final.
Kristian Coombs made 12 stops in the shutout, his second goose egg in a row in the final.
Zol was terrific again in the Red Wings’ crease, making 24 stops on the night.
It was the first finals game in Weyburn since Apr. 30, 2012.
