REGINA, SK – Melfort Mustangs Zayden Sadlemyer and Danton Cox have committed to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology of the ACAC for the 2026-27 campaign.
Sadlemyer, 21, scored 17 goals and 35 points in 49 regular-season games this past year with the Mustangs, and has 82 points in 106 career regular-season SJHL contests, mostly with Melfort.
The Buena Vista, SK native played in all six of the Mustangs’ Centennial Cup games a year ago, and had 16 points in 20 career junior post-season contests between Melfort and Fort McMurray of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
He was the captain of the Mustangs this recently concluded campaign and was part of Team SJHL’s Gold Medal performance at the 2026 Viking Cup.
“Zayden’s leadership was a key piece for our push to make the playoffs,” said Melfort head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins.
“He brought a level of professionalism and competition every day that set the tone for our group. He leads by example, and that’s something every team values in a captain.”
Cox, 21, played in 191 career regular-season SJHL games for the Humboldt Broncos, Kindersley Klippers, and Mustangs.
The Prince Albert, SK native was a part of both of Melfort’s last two Centennial Cup silver-medal-winning squads, where he scored four goals and seven points in 11 contests.
He played in 31 post-season games for the Mustangs, being a part of both their Canterra Seeds Cups in 2024 and 2025.
Cox played both defence and forward in his time at the Northern Lights Palace.
“Danton was the definition of a team-first player,” said Blevins.
“He did everything for his teammates and never hesitated to step into any role we needed. His ability to play both forward and defence gave us incredible flexibility, and he embraced that challenge every day. Players like Danton are a huge part of championship teams.”
Both players were SJHL draft picks: the Broncos took Cox in the second round in 2020, and the Melville Millionaires took Sadlemyer in the third round that year.
They join Flin Flon Bomber Reid Arberry as SJHL commits to NAIT thus far this season.
