REGINA, SK – The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) concluded its 2026 Annual General Meeting, which ran June 4-6.

The event, located in Warman, SK, was attended by league governors, sponsors, coaches, and SJHL staff, and was a great opportunity to build relationships among partners, celebrate last year’s success, and continue developing plans for future improvement.

In addition to reviewing strategic plans, discussing league rules and league discipline, the AGM featured updates from the SJHL Department of Player Safety, Paul Raycroft, an update from the SJHL Director of Marketing, Nick Shumlanski and Co-Director of Media, Jamie Neugebauer, and several CJHL and Hockey Canada updates from Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.

“It is an exciting time for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League,” said league Chairman Kyle Adamson.

“We are coming off a highly successful season, which featured unprecedented parity with the Flin Flon Bombers being awarded their first Canterra Seeds Cup and their first SJHL championship in 33 years. Last season, over 250, 000 fans attended an SJHL game, and SJHL fans viewed over 9 million minutes of SJHL Hockey on FloHockey.”

“Our board of governors refreshed our strategic plans in Hockey Operations, Business Operations and in Marketing and Social media,” said Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.

“I am very pleased to say that we continue to be on track and our league made significant gains on the provincial and national level, but recognize that there is always work to be done to continue to remain competitive and to continue to make our league premier.”

“As a league, we must continue to adapt and respond to remain relevant in the 21st-century junior hockey landscape. We are consistently discussing ways to improve the experience of our players and fans,” added Commissioner McIntyre.

To that end, we are implementing an improved camera setup and exploring additional sponsorship and creative broadcasting opportunities.

We are excited to announce a continuing and renewed partnership with Great Western Brewery, which has been the official beer of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League since 2019.”

At the scheduling meeting, the league discussed ways to make travel more efficient and economical, with division play and competitive balance in mind, while also focusing on weekend games and geographic rivalries.

SJHL Training Camps will be eligible to open on Aug. 28, while the regular season schedule will kick off Sept. 18, 2026.

Our schedule will feature a 56-game season and a return to a balanced schedule, in which each club will play division rivals eight times and every other team four times.

The playoffs are set to begin on March 21.

“This past year, we wanted to further engage our fans in our communities and throughout our province with our SJHL social media and league programming,” said Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.

“I believe we were highly successful with each seeing significant gains in the areas of attendance, social media followership and SaskTel and FloHockey viewership. The average age in the SJHL was 18.8, and almost 50% of all players were from Saskatchewan. With a strong commitment to our league sponsors and to our partners at Hockey Saskatchewan, we are committed to continuing the momentum of our commitment to keeping the ‘Saskatchewan’ in the ‘SJHL,” Commissioner McIntyre said.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and its twelve teams are known for their exceptional player development and commitment to their players, their people, and the communities they serve.
