1996 F Keaton Holinaty (Hardisty AB) scored goals in each of the first two games of the Canalta Cup finals as the Battlefords North Stars took a 2-0 lead in the best of seven league final with the Flin Flon Bombers.  Holinaty has 9-goals and 2-assists in 10-games in the postseason and the Stars are a perfect 10-and-0 overall.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Kendall Fransoo, Battlefords North Stars

1996 D Kendall Fransoo (North Battleford SK) returned from a lengthy injury layoff and scored a goal in the first period of game one’s victory over Flin Flon in the Canalta Cup final.  Fransoo had been out since February 22nd when he sustained an open ice hit, but the heart and soul veteran provided a big boost upon his return.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Taryn Kotchorek, Battlefords North Stars
1997 G Taryn Kotchorek (North Battleford SK) made 19 saves in a game one win over the Flin Flon Bombers on Friday night.  He’s 7-and-0 with a 2.00-GAA and .918-SPCT in the postseason.  One night later, Joel Gryzbowski stopped 31-of-32 to match Kotchorek.  Meanwhile, Brenden Newton backstopped the Bombers into the finals with spectaclar goaltending against Nipawin, which included a shutout in game seven.  Kristian Stead blocked 44-of-46 in the game seven loss for the Hawks.  So, plenty of gret performances.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Nate Hooper, Flin Flon Bombers
1998 F Nate Hooper (Winnipeg MB) scored two goals in a 3-0 clincher in game seven against the Nipawin Hawks in the SJHL semi-finals.  Hooper, who scored 8 goals in 53 games during the regular season, has found the net 5 times in 13 playoff games to become a reliable secondary source for scoring.
