Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

Nolan Renwick

NOTRE DAME HOUNDS

As one of the league’s younger players, Notre Dame forward Nolan Renwick is holding his own.

The 17-year-old product of Milestone, Sask., who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at just over 200 pounds, is tied for second in team scoring with 22 points in his first 30 games and while he has yet to finish high school he already has his post-secondary career lined up as he has committed to play at the University of Maine beginning in the fall of 2020.

Renwick made the move to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League after two very successful seasons with the Midget AAA Hounds of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. In 85 regular-season games over those two years he averaged just under a point per game collecting 26 goals and 58 assists, but in the playoffs he took his game to another level, especially last season when he helped the Hounds claim the Telus Cup championship. In eight playoff games enroute to the league championship, Renwick had nine goals and four helpers and in seven games at the national tournament he posted 10 points, including a team-best nine assists. Renwick was also named to the SMAAAHL’s second all-star team following the 52 points he posted in the regular season.

That national title wasn’t the first championship on Renwick’s resume as two years earlier he helped the Notre Dame Bantam AAA Hounds claim the provincial crown. During that campaign, one in which he was selected in the sixth round of the annual Western Hockey League bantam draft by the Swift Current Broncos, Renwick notched 30 points in 38 regular-season games and five more in six playoff tilts.

Renwick’s play, both prior to the SJHL and during his freshman campaign at the junior level, was recognized recently when he was one of just four SJHL players to be invited to the selection camp for Team West that will be competing at the World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alta. Although he never made the team, just being invited shows that his talents are being noticed.

The Hounds have had an up-and-down season, but one thing that has been consistent has been the play of one of their prized rookies. Renwick will undoubtedly play a big role in where the Hounds finish in the regular season and if he continues to settle in then Notre Dame could make the Global Ag Risks Solution Division race even more exciting.
