SGEU MVP of the Month: Rylan Williams, Estevan Bruins
As much as Rylan has been brilliant all year long, and he has, he would be the first to agree that his being named MVP of November is as much about his performance as it is about his line with Ewan Rennie and Cash Olson. The trio combined for a whopping 44 points over the Bruins’ 10 games this month, during which the club went 7-2-1. There isn’t a more polished power forward in the league right now than the veteran from Kyle, Saskatchewan.
Month Stats: 10 GP – 9 G, 8 A – 17 PTS
Bourgault Forward of the Month: Gabriel Courchesne, Yorkton Terriers
Much like the Terriers as a whole, Courchesne’s second half of November was off the charts. In the final four games, the team scored 20 goals, and the Quebecer was on the ice for just about half of them. As dynamic a forward as there is in the SJHL, he has also shown he can take care of his own end, and is a big reason why Yorkton’s power play has been around 24% all year. He’s not big, but he certainly does not play small.
Month Stats: 8 GP – 4 G, 10 A – 14 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Month: Sam Ward, Flin Flon Bombers
Flin Flon’s November dominance has strongly coincided with Ward finding his stride in the Maroon and White. A mid-October acquisition, the former Swift Current Bronco and Wenatchee Wild man posted nine of his November points in the final six games of the month, all but one a Flin Flon win. He plays in all situations as well, and has been the go-to defenceman the club needed, sitting at a healthy rating of +12 through 15 games in the league.
Month Stats: 11 GP – 6 G, 6 A – 12 PTS
SaskTel Goalie of the Month: Gage Roberts, Nipawin Hawks
The high-flying Hawks have shown they can be stingy, too, this year, and the play of Roberts is a big reason why. He has won 11 of his 17 games so far this year, the most victories of any goaltender in the league, and ended November on a personal six-game win streak. Not the biggest goaltender, he gets the job done with athleticism and intense competitiveness.
Month Stats: 6-1-0-0 – 1 SO, 2.67 GAA, .916 SV%
SaskMilk Rookie of the Month: Cash Olson, Estevan Bruins
Estevan has a glut of talent everywhere, including up front, so it says a lot about what his coach, Drew Kocur, thinks about him to keep him on the right wing of the Williams-Ewan Rennie line. The rookie out of SAHA U18 Prep has been sizzling all year and put on a terrific show at the early-month Western All-Star Challenge in Martensville, scoring a typical scintillating goal and looking dangerous in the two games against Manitoba’s best youngsters.
Month Stats: 10 GP – 6 G, 4 A – 10 PTS
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Month: Jye Zawatsky, Yorkton Terriers (from Yorkton, Sask)
Yorkton’s hometown boy finally has the role he has worked hard for over his Terriers career, and has taken more than full advantage. Playing on the line with Courchesne and William Leonard has been a boon for the speedy winger, and he finished the month as hot as anyone in the league with 11 points in a five-game point streak entering December. The depth on the Terriers is coming too, so look for this whole crew in the second half.
Month Stats: 8 GP – 6 G, 7 A – 13 PTS
