Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

PLAYERS OF THE MONTH: February 2022

Notre Dame's Kevin Anderson led the league in points in the month of February.

SGEU MVP OF THE MONTH: Kevin Anderson, Notre Dame Hounds

Notre Dame captain and Princeton University commit Kevin Anderson led the Hounds to within a breath of clinching a playoff spot in February, posting a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League-best 13 assists and 20 points on the month. A 2003-born forward from Regina, SK, Anderson finished February with a four-game point-scoring streak over which he piled up nine points, and was enormous in all three zones, on both the power play, and penalty kill, and overall in helping Notre Dame surge ahead of Kindersley for the final playoff spot in the league.

Monthly Stats: (14GP, 7G-13A-20PTS)

Runner up: Olivier Pouliot, Estevan Bruins.

RBC FORWARD OF THE MONTH: Connor McGrath, Humboldt Broncos

The Ferris State University Division I NCAA commit McGrath was almost unstoppable in February, posting almost two points-per-game, and a goal-per-game over the 10 contests. A 2003-born forward, McGrath’s productive consistency has been remarkable all year, and while only 18 years of age, looks to be running away with the SJHL scoring title as we enter the regular season’s final month. The NHL draft prospect scored two goals on three occasions in the month and was only held off the goal-sheet on three occasions.

Monthly Stats: (10GP, 10G-9A-19PTS)

Runner up: Dylan Esau, Battlefords North Stars.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH: Rylan Thiessen, Flin Flon Bombers

The 21-year-old Thiessen picked up a ton of the slack for Flin Flon in February with the injury to all-star Cole Vardy, and posted a point-per-game from the blue line while playing in all situations for the Bombers. A veteran of the Western Hockey League, Thiessen has played in only 28 games for the Manitoba-based club this year, but still has a remarkable 24 points and two game-winning-goals over that span.

Monthly Stats: (12GP, 2G-10A-12PTS)

Runner up: Dayton Deics, Estevan Bruins..

SASKTEL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH: Rayce Ramsay, Humboldt Broncos

The awards and plaudits continue to grow, and rightfully so, for the University of Toronto (USports) committed goaltender Ramsay. A 21-year-old from Saskatoon, Ramsay has regularly been shattering records, both SJHL and Canadian Junior A, and is closing in on a remarkable 40 wins at the time of writing. If possible, in February he was even better, when he won eight of nine starts, and posted an incredible 1.12 goals-against-average and .956 save percentage. Nobody in the SJHL is anywhere close to Rayce in wins and minutes played.

Monthly Stats:  (8-1-0-0, 10GA, 215/225, 1.12 GAA, .956 SV%)

Runner up: Dawson Smith, La Ronge Ice Wolves

DIRECTWEST ROOKIE OF THE MONTH: Karsten Kruska, Yorkton Terriers

A 2002-born forward from Edmonton, AB, Kruska had a breakout month, when he posted points in all-but two Yorkton contests, and put up 15 of his 29 points on the year in February alone.  He closed out February with a six-game point scoring streak, when he notched 11 points, and accentuated it with a two-goal, four-point effort in a critical Feb. 18 contest at home vs. the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Runner up: Austin Elliott, Notre Dame Hounds
