PLAYERS OF THE MONTH (February)

RBC PLAYER OF THE MONTH:  Josh Bly, Nipawin Hawks
1996 F Josh Bly (Saskatoon SK) led all players during the month of February with 8-goals and 10-assists in 11-games.  Bly was a driving force behind the Hawks overtaking the Flin Flon Bombers for first place in the Sherwood Division, picking up 13 points in a 3 game stretch in the middle of the month, highlighted by a five point game against Melfort on February 7th.  Bly has 13-goals and 28-assists in 31-games since joining the Hawks from Kindersley earlier this season.  Runner up:  Jason Miller, Estevan.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH:  Nick Rein, Notre Dame Hounds
1996 D Nick Rein (Calgary AB) has blossomed in the second half of the season and he took off in the month of February by contributing 4-goals and 9-assists in 11-games as the Hounds stormed back from 10th overall to force their way into the conversation for the coveted sixth spot for the playoffs.  Rein started the month with two goals and four points in a game against Estevan and he’s compiled 17-points in his last 13-games overall, which is all the more impressive when you consider he has 19-points (7-goals, 12-assists in 34-games) all season.  Runner up:  Eric Sinclair, Flin Flon.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH:  Garrett Mason, Humboldt Broncos
1996 G Garrett Mason (Okotoks AB) ran a brutal gauntlet of a schedule in February and still came away with an impressive 2.29-GAA and .939-SPCT with 1-shutout over 10-games despite a 4-5-and-1 record.  He made five appearances against Flin Flon, Battlefords, and Nipawin (top three in the league) and hasn’t had the benefit of a regular back-up behind him.  Mason blanked La Ronge with a 27-save shutout on February 15th and is 24-19-and-1 overall with a 2.78-GAA and .921-SPCT.  Runner up:  Benjamin Patt, Notre Dame.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH:  Dayton Heino, Melville Millionaires
1998 F Dayton Heino (Minnedosa MB) picked up five goals and seven assists in eleven games played during the month of February, finishing wiht a flurry of six points over his final four games of the month as he helped propel the Mils into playoff consideration.  Heino had a two-goal game at the end of the month against Notre Dame, and three points the game before that in Weyburn.  For the season, he has 11-goals and 16-assists in 54-games.  Runner up:  Adam Dawe, Notre Dame.
