PLAYERS OF THE MONTH (March)

RBC PLAYER OF THE MONTH:  Coby Downs, Battlefords North Stars
1996 F Coby Downs (Montclair CA USA) led all players in the month of March with 4-goals and 12-assists in 7-games played.  This included 3-goals and 2-assists in 2-games to finish the regular season and then 1-goal and 10-assists in 5-games of the postseason.  Downs had 9-points in a 4-game series sweep over Weyburn and picked up two more in the first game against Estevan to kick off the league semi-finals.  Runner-up:  Greyson Reitmeier, Flin Flon.

IBAS DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH:  Connor Sych, Battlefords North Stars
1997 D Connor Sych (North Battleford SK) has stepped up in the absence of Kendall Fransoo, due to injury, in the SJHL playoffs.  Sych picked up a goal and seven helpers in seven games during the month of March.  Sych had three assists in the final two games of the regular season (home and home with Kindersley) and then had a goal and two assists in the Weyburn sweep before setting up two goals in game one against Estevan.  Runner up:  Eric Sinclair, Flin Flon.

SASKTEL GOALIE OF THE MONTH:  Kristian Stead, Nipawin Hawks
1996 G Kristian Stead (Merrit BC) kicked off the month with a shutout win over Melfort, making 22-saves and then following the regular season finale loss to Flin Flon, he reeled off five wins in a row to post a 1.60-GAA and .953-SPCT to begin the playoffs.  Overall for the month, Stead went 6-and-1, 1.71, .948, 1 shutout.  Runner-up:  Zac Robidoux, Flin Flon.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH:  Adam Dawe, Notre Dame Hounds
1999 F Adam Dawe (Gander NF) really made his presence known towards the end of the month in the Flin Flon series (SJHL quarters) as he missed the first three games due to injury, but returned and potted three helpers in the first period of his first game back.  He also set up his team’s only goal in the game five loss and finished the month of March with 4-goals and 9-assists in 9-games played, capping off a banner year for the SJHL Rookie Of The Year.  Runner up: Chaz Smedsrud, Notre Dame.
