PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Michael Grant, Nipawin Hawks
1997 F Michael Grant (Lethbridge AB) fired five goals and three assists in three games last week, including a hat trick and five points on Friday night as the Hawks thumped Melville 10-1.  Grant had two points in the previous game on Wednesday against Melfort and also scored a goal Saturday versus Yorkton.  He now has 17-goals and 12-assists in 36-games.  Runner up:  Brett Harasmyuk, Nipawin.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Curtis Meger, Estevan Bruins
1998 G Curtis Meger (Regina SK) made 36-saves to record a shutout in his only start this past week, blanking the Melville Millionaires on Wednesday night.  The rookie netminder is 9-and-5 on the season with a 3.12 GAA and .913 SPCT.  Runner up:  Brenden Newton, Flin Flon.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Mike Eskra, Weyburn Red Wings
1997 D Mike Eskra (Regina SK) helped the Wings salvage a three game in three night road trip by scoring a goal and setting up another in the three games.  He scored the overtime winner in Battlefords on Friday and also set up his team’s first goal on Sunday in Kindersley.  He has 3-goals and 17-assists in 39-games on the year.  Runner up:  Levi Kleiboer, Battlefords.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Chaz Smedsrud, Notre Dame Hounds
1998 F Chaz Smedsrud (Luverne MN USA) picked up a goal and two assists on Friday night in La Ronge as the Hounds opened their three game road trip with a victory.  He has 6-goals and 5-assists in 26-games in his first season in the SJHL.  Runner up:  Josh McDougall, Nipawin.
