CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jason Miller, Estevan Bruins
1996 F Jason Miller (Spruce Grove AB) picked up two goals and three assists in three games played this past week as the Bruins further cemented their position atop the Viterra Division. Miller had two goals and three points in a win over La Ronge and also picked up assists in games against Melville and Nipawin. He has 25-goals and 32-assists in 52-games this year. Runner-up: Coby Downs, Battlefords.
IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Mike Eskra, Weyburn Red Wings
1997 D Michael Eskra (Regina SK) lit up the stat sheet with back to back three-assist game over the weekend against the Melville Millionaires. One was a 3-2 win, the other a 4-3 loss; so Eskra has factored in on every single one of his team’s goals in the last two games. He has 8-goals and 20-assists while playing in a career high 51-games this year. Runner-up: Clayton Eisler, Melville.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Taryn Kotchorek, Battlefords North Stars
1997 G Taryn Kotchorek (North Battleford SK) won both of his starts this back, yielding only a single goal in each contest as he helped the Stars defeat Kindersley on Wednesday and Notre Dame on Saturday. In all, he blocked 55-of-57 shots. Kotchorek is a model of consistency, allowing no more than two goals in each start since January 6th. He’s been beaten for more than three in a single game only twice, both games were before October 13th. He’s 26-and-3 on the year with a 1.67-GAA and .933-SPCT. Runner-up: Kristian Stead, Nipawin.
SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Aaron Aragon, Melville Millionaires
1997 F Aaron Aragon (Whittier CA USA) helped spark the Mils run to the final playoff spot this past week by scoring the game winning goal, late in the third period against Weyburn on Saturday night; part of a three point evening. He also had a goal against the Wings one night earlier and now has 10-goals and 12-assists in 49-games played. Runner-up: Dayton Heino, Melville.
