PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Apr 8)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Carson Albrecht, Melfort Mustangs
1998 F Carson Albrecht (Martensville SK) picked up two goals and two assists in four games played this past week as the Mustangs took games five and six to defeat the Estevan Bruins 4-games-to-2 in advancing to the Canalta Cup finals.  Albrecht had assists in games three and four and then scored twice in game five to push his totals to 10-goals and 4-assists in 11-games.  He leads all players in scoring during the postseason.  Runner-up:  Colin Schmidt, Melfort.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Jake Hobson, Melfort Mustangs
1999 D Jake Hobson (Prince Albert SK) helped the Mustangs secure a berth in the Canalta Cup finals with one goal and one assist in four games played this past week.  Both points came in games on the road, with an assist in game three and a goal in game four.  He has 7-points overall in the playoffs, which ranks second overall amongst SJHL blueliners.  Runner-up:  Cody Spagrud, Battlefords.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Joel Grzybowski, Battlefords North Stars
1999 G Joel Gryzbowski (Hafford SK) enters the Canalta Cup final with a shutout streak of 198 minutes after blanking the Terriers twice last week to close out a four game series sweep.  Grzybowski turned away all 61 shots faced in the two road victories and hasn’t allowed a goal since the third period of game one against the Terriers.  He has 4-shutouts, a 1.40-GAA and .959-SPCT overall in the playoffs.  Runner-up:  Noah Giesbrecht, Melfort.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Cody Davis, Estevan Bruins
2002 F Cody Davis (Alameda SK) scored two goals in the first period of game four and then assisted on another in game five to pick up three points in four games played last week.  Davis, who had 4-points in 2-games during the regular season for the Bruins, toiled with the Moose Jaw Generals of the SMAAAHL during the regular season and ripped 26-goals and 14-assists in 44-games.  He could be a key cog for the Bruins next season and will be eligible as a rookie next year as well.  Runner-up:  Ryan Ouellette, Yorkton.
